bffbot is a personal journaling service you use by text message. We try to collect as little as possible and to keep what you write private.
What we collect
- Your phone number: it’s your account.
- Your messages: the journal entries you send (text and any photos), plus the technical metadata your carrier/WhatsApp includes (timestamps, message IDs).
- Billing: handled by Stripe. We never see or store your card number.
- Analytics: privacy-friendly, self-hosted usage stats (page views). No third-party advertising or cross-site trackers.
How we use it
To save your entries, reply to you, let you read your journal on the web, and send you account messages (trial and billing reminders, login links, support and opt-out responses). That’s it.
Your privacy promises
- Your entries are encrypted at rest.
- We do not sell or rent your data. We do not share your mobile information or SMS opt-in/consent with third parties or affiliates for their marketing.
- Your entries are never used to train AI models. bffbot’s replies are rule-based, not AI.
- Your data is yours: export everything anytime, and request deletion whenever you want.
Service providers we rely on
We use a few processors strictly to run the service: Twilio (message delivery), Stripe (payments), and Amazon S3 (storing photos you send). They process data on our behalf and are not permitted to use it for their own purposes.
Retention & security
We keep your entries until you delete them or close your account. We use encryption and standard safeguards, but no system is perfectly secure.
Children
bffbot isn’t intended for anyone under 16. Please don’t use it if you’re younger than that.
A note on crises
bffbot is not a counselor or emergency service. If you’re in crisis, call or text 988 (US Suicide & Crisis Lifeline) or 911.
